On National Cancer Survivor Day, We Celebrate Caregivers Too
Every year, National Cancer Survivor Day offers an opportunity to honor those who have faced cancer head-on. It’s a day of celebration, reflection, and community. But at Trualta, we also recognize another critical group—the caregivers—who walk beside survivors throughout the cancer journey.
Whether a spouse, sibling, friend, or adult child, caregivers provide the essential support that often goes unseen. This National Cancer Survivor Day, on June 1st, we celebrate caregivers, too. And we’re thrilled to announce our new Cancer Care Toolkit, designed specifically to support these everyday heroes.
Check if you have free access to Trualta to start exploring this exciting new toolkit.
The Role Of Cancer Caregivers
Cancer survivorship is about more than being cancer-free. It’s about navigating the complex journey during and after treatment. For many survivors, their journey is deeply intertwined with the caregiver by their side.
Caregivers often manage medication schedules, attend medical appointments, provide emotional support, and help manage the daily realities of cancer care. They’re the glue holding the pieces together, offering love and strength while silently carrying their own burdens.
But caregiving can be overwhelming. Many caregivers experience stress, anxiety, and burnout, all while managing complex medical decisions and family dynamics.
This is why caregiver support is critical to comprehensive cancer care. And why today, alongside celebrating survivors, we elevate the voices and experiences of caregivers.
Introducing Trualta’s Cancer Care Toolkit
In honor of National Cancer Survivor Day, Trualta is proud to introduce our Cancer Care Toolkit, a new resource designed to support caregivers through every phase of cancer care.
This comprehensive, easy-to-understand toolkit includes 19 engaging learning activities, blending articles, videos, and interactive tools that tackle the real-world challenges caregivers face.
Highlights From The Cancer Care Toolkit:
- Cancer Care Basics: Understand cancer diagnosis, treatment phases, and what to expect.
- Treatment & Management: Actionable caregiving strategies for chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and managing side effects like fatigue and nausea.
- Caregiver Emotions: Tools to manage caregiver guilt, fear, burnout, and complex family relationships.
- Care With Empathy & Respect: Guidance on respecting autonomy, improving communication, and balancing support with dignity.
Our toolkit goes beyond clinical tasks. It empowers caregivers with emotional support, communication tips, and coping strategies, all delivered in plain language for any health literacy level.
As Katie O’Shea, a healthcare provider and cancer subject matter expert, says: “This is such a well-written piece of educational material with exceptionally actionable strategies. The technical medical concepts have great accuracy but readability for health literacy.”
Why Caregiver Support Improves Cancer Outcomes
Evidence shows that caregiver support is an essential pillar of cancer survivorship. Caregivers are not just helpers; they are vital members of the care team who influence treatment adherence, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life.
By offering caregivers the right tools and guidance, we create stronger care teams and better outcomes for survivors. This is the philosophy behind our Cancer Care Toolkit: A resource that meets caregivers where they are, helping them feel prepared, supported, and connected.
Recognizing The Full Cancer Experience
This annual celebration is a time to reflect on the full scope of the cancer journey: The courage of those living with and beyond cancer, and the essential support provided by caregivers along the way. We also honor and remember those whose cancer journey does not lead to survivorship, acknowledging the profound loss, love, and care that are part of these stories, too.
At Trualta, we believe that honoring survivorship also means recognizing the ongoing challenges and emotional complexities faced by caregivers. Their support is not always easy, and the journey can sometimes feel isolating.
That’s why we created our Cancer Care Toolkit, to provide caregivers with compassionate, practical resources that help them feel seen, supported, and better equipped to navigate each phase of care.
We invite you to explore the toolkit and join us in acknowledging the many roles caregivers play in supporting loved ones through cancer treatment, recovery, and beyond on this special day.
